Abbie’s kindergarten class is going to ‘publish’ a poetry book in a few weeks, and the kids are learning about acrostics. Each of the kids are supposed to make an acrostic of their name which describes themselves (more on that in a minute). They are also learning about Presidents (celebrating Presidents’ Day), and she brought home her acrostic on Presidents.
Polite
Rich
Excellent
Super
Interesting
Determined
Excited
Nice
Terrific
Here is the acrostic she made of her name… Always Polite
Beautiful
Is learning
Gymnast
Almost six
Is a smart girl
Loves God
I love that girl.
Sometimes, when life happens we can easily lose our perspective. I’ve been inspired to actually write down things I’m thankful for on a regular basis. So, here’s the first of a weekly installment of Thankful Thursday.
Today I am grateful for…
1. Healthy kids…finally.
2. Co-workers who have my best interest at heart.
3. A husband who is more than willing to take care of me when I’m sick.
4. Bottled water.
5. The Tension Tamer tea my mom got me for Christmas.
6. Finally being able to take a deep breath without going into a coughing fit!
7. Being challenged by people I’ve never met.
8. Knowing God is moving in the hearts of people.
9. Being married to a man who loves God more than he loves me.
10. LOST is tonight!

Well, my praise of the week is that both kids are healthy and back at school!!! Unfortunately, the temperature drop from 50 to 29 earlier in the week has me sick now, but I’m making it through. I will be so glad when spring gets here and we can open all of the windows!!!
Another quick FYI...check out the new look at Jason’s blog. And I have a hilarious blog that I’m waiting to post soon…just waiting for Jason to scan something in for me…so stay tuned!
Just a few minutes ago, I was sitting next to Abbie as she was getting ready to play Jason in some Mario Party Minigames on the Wii.
She looks over and asks me–Mom, why do you not call me by my real name?
Me–Well, Abbie…Daddy and I really liked the name Abbie, so that’s what we decided to call you.
Abbie–I want you to call me Abigail, because it’s a longer name than Abbie, and I like longer names…they’re prettier.
Me–Well, let’s talk to Daddy, but it is your name, so if you want to be called Abigail, then we’ll call you Abigail.
Abbie–So, how do you spell Abigail? A-B-I-G-I-A-L-I??? Because I’ll have to practice so I can put it on all of my papers at school.
I don’t know how many times I’ve said that Abbie is such a mini version of me. Many times I know exactly what she’s thinking because I did the exact same thing when I was a child…only not as young as she is doing them. Well, she’s falling right in line. I don’t know how many times I changed my name or the way I spelled my name. I remember deciding in 3rd grade that I wanted to go by Katherine, and in 5th grade I was spelling my name Kati. When we moved to Indiana, I really thought about going by Kate, but I decided to reserve that for Jason.
So, after talking to Daddy, she decided she wants to be called Abigail. Boy, that’s going to take some getting used to!
One down, one to go. Abbie’s fever is gone, and she was able to return to school today…just in time for her Valentine’s celebration and Fairytale Ball. Everyone in her class was able to dress up as their favorite fairytale character, and Abbie chose Sleeping Beauty.
Jason called me this morning at work to tell me the scene that I missed. I had laid out her clothes before I left for work, but she was still asleep when I left. She got ready and she and Jason were heading to the car to go to school. Jason opened his door, and Abbie just looked at him and said:
“Isn’t anyone going to help the princess into her carriage?”
Pictures to come…
I’ve decided that instead of wallering in my world of sick children (yep…you read that right–Abbie’s fever has returned and BOTH kids are sick today), I will blog about a couple of things that I am VERY excited for.
At the end of May, Jason and I are going to be heading to Reston, VA (outside of D.C.) for Whiteboard, a one-day conference for church planters and church leaders that is going to be incredible!

We had decided that since Jason was going to attend this conference, and it’s right before Memorial Day, we’d make a little mini-vacation out of it. I decided that while Jason was enjoying the day at Whiteboard, I would enjoy some serious relaxation with a day at the spa. Full on, spend my money on myself and spend the whole day at the spa–aromatherapy body wrap, massage, European facial, manicure, pedicure, hot mitt hand and foot treatment, spa lunch–the whole sha-bang!
Then I actually got a little jealous of Jason. Some of you may know that I am not a conference person. I really don’t enjoy them at all…not really sure why, but they just aren’t on the list of top things to do (thus the reason for spending the day at the spa). But Whiteboard isn’t your typical conference. Simply put…it’s going to be pretty amazing. So over the weekend, I say to Jason…”Okay, now tell me if you aren’t okay with this, but what do you think of instead of me going to the spa, I go to Whiteboard with you.” After the initial shock wore off, he had me registered within 15 minutes! I’m very excited!
The rest of the weekend should be great too. We’ll enjoy Reston Town Center while we’re there, catch some D.C. sites, and just relax. On Sunday we’re going to attend National Community Church, where Mark Batterson serves as the Lead Pastor (he is the author of “In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day“-one of Jason’s favorite books right now, and what we are currently using for our small group study, “Chase the Lion”).
It should be a great time, as long as I have vacation time to take by then (read- Please get better soon children!)

I honestly thought we were out of the woods. Abbie got over her fever Friday night, and we had a really healthy weekend. I put the kids to bed tonight, and about 2 hours later I heard Peyton calling for me…which is really rare–he usually sleeps through the night. Of course, when I kissed his forehead he was burning up. Fortunately, his temp wasn’t as high as Abbie’s initially (she was getting up to 103.5), but still–Jason and I are both out of sick time and I’m down to a few hours of vacation time.
I am SO thankful for my mother-in-law. Both sets of parents live two and a half hours away. She got a phone call at 10:00 her time, and is on her way up here as I write this (it’s about 1:30am now) to watch Peyton tomorrow, allowing Jason and I to both go to work. Working for your husband does have it’s advantages…and gotomypc.com is helpful too!!!
So, I’m REALLY hoping this is the last round of this. Hopefully Peyton will get over it a little faster than Abbie. I know everyone is dealing with stuff like this. My heart goes out to you all!!!

I love reading blogs. When I’m not busy at work and over my lunch, that’s usually what I’m doing. Catching up with friends, and reading about things I’m interested in. I began reading the blog of the senior pastor at Cross Point Church in Nashville after he posted a comment on Jason’s blog.
For those of you who know me, authenticity is such a huge thing for me. I don’t pretend to be perfect, and I strive to be real. Many of the negative images of “the church” come from a lack of authenticity. Anyway, I won’t go into that right now, but the title of this new blog, “Without Wax” intrigued me so, and I learned something new about the word…sincere. Here’s a glimpse of sincerity via Pete Wilson.

Wax, trying to disguise cheap pottery as something worth more. Isn’t it better to just be without wax…to be sincere…authentic as a person, as a Christian? Yes, your flaws may be a little more exposed, but it’s a lot less work, and worth more in the end.

Wow! We’ve had a lot on our hands the last couple of weeks…mostly sick children. Add that to our busy schedule, and it’s not a good combination! Now that Jason and I have both drained our sick time and me most of my vacation, we are just hoping for an end to the sickness.
Just a quick family update…Abbie did lose her tooth about a week after we discovered it was loose. She loved that the Tooth Fairy remembered her that night. I’ve done absolutely NO scrapbooking since my last post. I need to have another girls night soon so that I can get some done, but right now I just need a short respite.
