Things your kids say…Part 3

So yesterday Jason and I headed to IL…it’s about a 1.5 hour car ride.  We ended up having a great lunch with my brother and his wife, but the kids were an absolute HOOT the entire way there.  We’re talking making up songs that made no sense, but made us laugh, and saying the strangest things!

At first I wasn’t sure the trip was going to go so well.  About 20 minutes in, the kids are arguing with each other, and then out of the corner of my eye I see Abbie’s purse swinging through the air and hear Peyton screaming.

Me-  Abbie, did you just hit your brother with your purse?

Abbie-  No…I almost did, but he ducked. (She was more mad that she missed him than that she did something she wasn’t supposed to)

(Apparently, he was taking her toys and throwing them in the back of the car)

Me-  Abbie, what are we supposed to do when someone does something unkind to you?

Peyton-  Abbie, you need to tell God you’re sorry…that makes God sad.

I’m glad Peyton is quick to point out these things, yet doesn’t seem to remember them himself!

Hodge-podge…

Obviously, by the lack of posts lately, you can tell I’m somewhat in a blog “funk”. In one sense, there is nothing that I really have to say right now. In another, there is a lot going on in my mind, but nothing that I feel I can/should/want to blog about. So, for now…please endure the “blog silence” or very sporadic posts. I promise I’ll get back to it faithfully…just not this week or next. But here’s a glimpse of what is going through my mind.

  • Had a wonderful evening last night. The kids were getting along great, the weather was incredible, I got to spend time with my wonderful husband talking about life, and the birds and rabbits were having a blast performing for us in the backyard.
  • I’m frustrated with myself that I can’t seem to (1) break my Pepsi habit or (2) faithfully get to the gym every morning.
  • Looking forward to driving to IL and having lunch with my brother and sister-in-law today. Very excited that I’ll get to meet my new nephew in the next month!
  • It’s great to be able to be off this summer and be with the kids. It’s tough though when several times a week they say “Mommy, I wish you didn’t have to work and you could be with us all the time.” I’m really praying through that right now.
  • Women are actually signing up to be a part of the two women’s small groups that I’m leading this summer. I’m excited to see what God has in store…
  • My good friend here in Lafayette is moving back to IL…I’m very excited for their family, but it makes me sad.
  • Finished up the garage sale on Saturday. It was “profitable”, but I am amazed at how much STUFF we have. And how much stuff we STILL have. It’s really messing with me (and will surely be a blog post soon).
  • Jason’s still not feeling great…I’m hoping the doctor might have some answers this week, and he can find some relief.
  • We have a couple of great weeks coming up! Next week, taking the kids camping for a few days. Away from everything…no computer, emergency phone use only, etc. It will be great! Then off to do be faculty at a week of Junior High camp…I love doing this every year!

If you want to keep up with me while I’m infrequently blogging, you can always follow me on Twitter. Now, off to try and catch up on my to-do list!

Things Your Kids Say…Part 2

This week we are having Kidzone Summertime at church (our version of Vacation Bible School…just a little different).  I was interested to see how this week went with our kids, since they are in different classes for the first time, since Abbie is a “big first grader” now.

So last night as the evening is coming to a close, Jason and I are talking with some of the parents and volunteers in the hall, and one of the women that is helping in Peyton’s class comes up and jokingly says… “I need to have a talk with you two”.  She goes on to explain how Peyton was sitting next to one of the girls in class, gently elbows her and says, “You’re hot!”.  A couple of times.  Nice!  Real Nice!

So, Jason talked to him a little bit last night, but I wanted to talk to him myself this morning.  In re-telling what the teachers told us he said, he stops me to correct me… That’s not what I said, Mom.  I said…”you’re a hot baby”.  Oh great…even better!

So I begin to inquire…what does that mean, Peyton…when you say you’re a hot baby?

It means Hello!

So we continued to talk about how that really doesn’t mean hello, and he has decided that when he wants to say “hi” to a girl…he’s going to say, “Hola!”.  Okay…

And the best part…I ask, so Peyton…where did you hear that?

From Uncle Justin…when we were in California.

I’ll remember to thank him the next time I see him.  :)

It’s Coming…

A real blog post that is. That is one reason why I could never be a “prolific” blogger…I am in the mood to write for a while…and then I’m not–so I apologize for the week of non-posting.

Bear with me for a bit…this week is a really busy one for us! We have Kidzone Summertime this week (like VBS), and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to schedule a garage sale this weekend with several of my friends, not realizing originally that it was the same week.

I do have some thoughts I want to get down…I just don’t know when it will be. Probably tomorrow though!!!

Jason Gordon Yoga???

I honestly could care less about any statistics related to my blog, since I mainly write here to remember what’s going on in our lives and to give our extended family a glimpse into our daily activities…but it is interesting to see what brings people to the site. Today I was looking over my stats, and someone had searched for “Jason Gordon yoga” and got to my blog.

Seriously….you would not want to see that! Really…even Jason would admit it. Apparently, there is another Jason Gordon on this earth (yeah…hard to believe, right?) and he is an advanced practitioner of yoga, featured in instructional videos like this one.

Just to clear the air…that Jason Gordon is not my husband. :)

A fun family night…

Last night, we headed out for an impromptu dinner with some close friends. Where did we enjoy dinner on our anniversary??? Chick-Fil-A!!! I know, I know…very romantic…very grown up. But, it was a truly enjoyable evening. Kid-friendly means opportunity for adult conversations! It was so nice to catch up with friends!!!

I had never really realized it before, but Tuesday evenings are family night (at least at our Chick-Fil-A). Not only did our kids eat free (a nice perk), but they have activities for the kids. Last night was craft night. Now, the boys didn’t really get into it, but Abbie had a blast! It took her over an hour to finish her creation, but she was so proud of her beaded cow keychain!

8 Years…

I know that Jason already beat me to the punch today, but just indulge me here. I really can’t believe that it has been eight years since I walked down the aisle and became Katie Gordon. Eight years ago, we began our married life together…and it’s been an amazing ride. I am so blessed to be married to my best friend, who is such a Godly man, husband and father.

I love that I am married to a man who loves God more than he loves me, who is willing to follow God’s calling no matter what the cost…yet who never forsakes his family for his job.

I am so grateful for the past eight years, and look forward to a lifetime of chasing Him together and watching our children grow into the people God created them to be.

Getting excited…

Just wanted to share my excitement with you! In two weeks, we’ll be launching several short-term summer life groups at Brady Lane. I’m going to be leading two women’s groups…same study, two different times: one on Wednesday evenings, and one on Thursday mornings- with child care provided at both.

I know several of you have been talking about getting a women’s group together…here’s your opportunity! We will be walking through a study on finding your significance as a woman of God. I’m sure it will be a springboard for a lot of conversation as we all bring our life experiences to the table…and I’m really excited to see what God will do through it!!! You can sign up online, or at church on Sunday!

Quick quotes from Abbie…

Sunday mornings are always quite hilarious at my house.  For some reason, when the kids know Dad’s at church for the morning, michief is just beyond the horizon.  This morning, though, was a bit different.  The kids got along.  They actually ate their breakfast.  They didn’t get into anything they weren’t suppose to.  The house was actually still clean when I walked out the door.  Seriously…amazing.

There is usually something funny coming out of Abbie’s mouth.  Maybe I noticed it more this morning because I wasn’t frazzled…who knows.  As I was helping Abbie get ready this morning and doing her hair, here’s a few quotes from her mind.

  • Mom…I’m not really a big fan of green.  But, green is Tinkerbell’s color…so, I guess it’s okay…but I’m still not a big fan.
  • Mom, I’m afraid people won’t be able to tell us apart today.   Why Abbie?  Because our hair looks the same (we have a similiar haircut).  Maybe you could…you know…just not do it so pretty today, okay?
  • What shoes should I wear today?  How about your purple sandals, they will match your shirt.  Oh, yeah!  I’ll be all purple, like a grape.  That’s good…grapes are real fruity…and I am REALLY fruity, Mom.

 Oh, she keeps me laughing!

Ragamuffin Top Challenge

I am officially entering Carlos’ Ragamuffin Top Challenge! After a week of quietly and unofficially participating with Jason, I’m casting aside all of my self-consciousness and just doing it! Check out my first ever video blog below to see what I’m trying to accomplish, and how the first week went! (No laughing…okay, you can laugh…I did!) Props to the first person who tells me how many times I say “Um”! Seriously…horrible!
